In April 2024 the Minister of Immigration announced changes to some immigration policy settings that were not consulted with businesses prior to announcement. Some of the changes took immediate effect. BCA understands the intent of protecting jobs for New Zealanders, but we consider the Minister did not understand the tenuous situation with regard to driver supply and demand. We wrote to the Minister to express our concerns with particularly the bus driver work to residency pathway and most recently we wrote in conjunction with National Road Carriers and the Waste and Recycling Industry Forum to reinforce some of our broader concerns.
